Coroner IDs man killed in Roselle shooting
The man killed in a shooting Saturday night in Roselle has been identified.
The victim was 29-year-old Jamez Elem of Maywood, according to DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen, who was authorized to release the name by the DuPage County state's attorney's office.
Roselle police said there was no new information on the case Monday, and declined to speak further.
Elem and several other people were shot around 1:30 a.m. Saturday at a house near Picton and Roselle roads, according to a news release posted Saturday by the department.
The release did not say how many other people were shot, nor the address of the house, and police continued to be mum about those or any other details.
On the department's Facebook post, some commenters who said they live near the house wrote that it was frequently rented to people who used it to have parties.
At a village board meeting Monday afternoon, two people submitted written comments, and one a voicemail message, urging village officials to adopt laws regulating the renting of homes, especially short-term rentals such as those made through AIRBNB or VRBO. Administrator Jeff O'Dell said the staff has started reviewing the matter and intends to bring a proposal to the village board.
