DuPage County expected to get COVID-19 testing site

Another state-run COVID-19 testing site is expected to open next month in DuPage County, officials revealed Tuesday.

County board Chairman Dan Cronin announced during a board meeting that the county has reached an agreement with the state to form a partnership for a testing facility planned for the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton.

Cronin thanked Gov. J.B. Pritzker, state health officials and others for working "to bring the resources for this site here."

"I am asking county staff to work with the relevant Illinois officials to set up this location, which we currently have pegged for the DuPage County Fairgrounds," Cronin said.

The facility is tentatively scheduled to open June 4 and would operate for up to 12 weeks, Cronin said. The plan is for the facility to operate five days a week.

"Our primary goal is to begin by performing 200 to 250 tests per day," said Cronin, who added officials will seek to increase testing capacity as needed.

He said more information about the plan will be release as it's developed.
