Family celebrates Glen Ellyn woman's 99th birthday, at a safe distance

Cleo Wilson, a resident of Glen Ellyn since 1952, turned 99 years old this past weekend. She and her late husband, Donald Sr., built their house on the southside of Glen Ellyn where they raised their three children.

Since then, Wilson's family has grown to seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren most of whom were in attendance on April 25, to help celebrate Cleo's 99th birthday.

Due to the pandemic, Cleo was restricted to staying inside her residence at Brookdale in Glen Ellyn. Outside and through a glass window, the family sang "Happy Birthday" and greeted her with signs and well wishes.

Thirty-one family members participated in the celebration in the rain outside the senior residence. Four generations were represented.

The furthest to travel was her daughter and granddaughter from Minnesota.

In attendance were her three children, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and eight spouses, including a great-grandchild, born July 4, 2019.
