Arboretum already gearing up for spring 10K

Registration is open for the Morton Arboretum's The Champion of Trees 10K on April 19.

Runners and walkers can enjoy the first signs of spring on a USATF-certified course while supporting the arboretum's tree-focused research, programs and outreach initiatives.

The 10th annual race will begin at 8 a.m., with awards presented at 9:15 a.m. at the outdoor museum, 4100 Route 53, Lisle. Registered runners will receive a short-sleeve T-shirt, recovery food, and free parking and admission to the arboretum for the day.

Runners will be timed, and the top male and female finishers will receive a gift certificate for a pair of shoes from Dick Pond Athletics. The top three men and women in the designated age groups will receive medals.

A post-race party will feature live music and a photo booth. Runners 21 and older can also enjoy a complimentary Arbor Oak Amber Ale, the arboretum's signature beer, brewed with oak chips from the arboretum grounds.

Registration is $47 through Feb. 15 and $52 from Feb. 16 through April 18. Race-day registration is $62. Discounts are available for arboretum members.

Runners and walkers may register online. Family and friends who arrive by 9 a.m. will receive free admission to cheer on participants.
