Missing Schaumburg woman found dead in Chicago

A Schaumburg woman missing since late last month was found dead Monday in the trunk of her car on Chicago's far west side, according to police.

Sureel Dabawala, 34, had been reported missing Jan. 1 by her family after failing to return home Dec. 30.

Chicago police reported that the body was located at about 8:34 p.m. Monday, on the 200 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, Cook County officials said. Until the results are known, police are classifying the case as a death investigation.

Schaumburg police issued a missing person alert last week, saying Dabawala suffered from a medical condition that placed her in danger. Authorities have not yet revealed further details of that condition.

Dabawala's white 2011 Lexus sedan was also reported missing.

Authorities said the vehicle was located by a private investigator hired by Dabawala's family. The body was found wrapped in a blanket in the trunk.

Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact the Chicago Police Department or the Schaumburg Police Department Investigations at (847) 882-3534 or investigations@schaumburg.com.
