Standoff after 3-county chase ends with arrest of West Chicago resident

A West Chicago man was arrested Friday evening after leading Kane County sheriff's deputies on a chase through three counties, culminating in an armed standoff involving several law enforcement agencies, authorities said.

The sheriff's office said that at 3:15 p.m. Kane County deputies spotted Joshua Lee Grote, 40, who was wanted in LaSalle County on a $1 million arrest warrant for delivery of a controlled substance, driving a vehicle in the area of Route 47 and Jericho Road in Sugar Grove Township.

Grote ignored attempts to stop him and fled through southern Kane County, Kendall County and into LaSalle County, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said he pulled to the side of the road on the 4700 block of east 23rd Road in an unincorporated area near Sandwich, then declared that he had a firearm and remained in his vehicle.

For almost two hours, a standoff ensued before Grote surrendered, the sheriff's office said.
