Aurora Central puts on 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead'

Aurora Central Catholic High School's drama department is continuing its production of two Shakespeare-based plays two weeks apart.

On Nov. 1-2, they presented Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark," and this weekend, they will put on "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," by Tom Stoppard. The shows will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16, at the school, 1255 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.

The public is invited. Parking is free. Tickets are $10 and reserved seats are $15. Tickets are available at the door or in advance by calling (630) 907-0095.

Baked goods and popcorn will be available for sale.

According to Philip A. Nohl, drama and choir director, each show will include a not-dumb-show at 6:45 p.m. Not-dumb shows were silent pantomimes that Shakespeare used to explain his shows before they were performed.

Nohl said, "Hamlet is quite possibly the best play ever written. 'Rosencrantz' explores what two minor characters from 'Hamlet' do when they are not in 'Hamlet.' This play turns what it means to be a part of a play on its head and ponders reality and philosophy."

A tragedian band includes Ari Rosales, ukulele; Davin Colobong, saxophone; Nick Wiesner, guitar; Cathy Hiltenbrand, clarinet; and Justin Kish, drums.

Call (630) 907-0095 for tickets or information.
