Youth to demonstrate skills at 4-H shows at 2019 Kane County Fair
For hundreds of Kane County youth, 4-H project displays and animal shows are an important and fun part of the annual Kane County Fair, which will be July 17 to 21.
"We hope you will join us Fair Week to celebrate the hard work and achievements of these local youth," said Doris Braddock, 4-H Youth Development Program Coordinator. "Throughout the year, our 4-H members learn new things and develop skills, which they then demonstrate through the annual 4-H exhibits and shows, many of which are at the Kane County Fair."
In fact, 4-H'ers can explore scores of projects in seven areas of study - animal science, career and leadership development, creative arts, environmental sciences, global civic engagement, healthy living and nutrition, and STEM.
"4-H has been a huge part of my life," said 4-H member Gwen Klinkey. "Over the years, I have been able to participate in many different project areas at the Kane County Fair, which allowed me to expand my interests and find new things that I truly enjoy doing."
Many of these project areas are judged before the fair, but open for viewing throughout the week. During the fair, we also host animal shows, including beef, dairy, sheep, swine, goats, rabbit, poultry and horse and pony competitions.
The 4-H horse and pony shows will start at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 18, while dairy judging begins 9 a.m., sheep at 1 p.m., poultry at 3 p.m., and swine at 5 p.m. Horse and pony classes continue Friday, starting at 8:30 a.m., and beef judging begins at 9 a.m. Rabbit shows start at 5 p.m. that day.
The weekend features the 4-H goat show, and horse and pony dressage show, both starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 20. Later that day, the Master Showmanship Contest will begin in the Livestock Arena at 1 p.m., the 4-H Awards Program at 4:30 p.m., and the popular Milking Derby directly following at 5:30 p.m. The annual Blue Ribbon Sale will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 21.
