'Textures' exhibit opens with reception July 12 at Fine Line Creative Arts Center

Celebrate with Fine Line staff, board members and volunteers as they welcome a new gallery show on Friday, July 12. "Textures" brings together pieces by 28 artists. The opening reception will include awards given by the judge and talks by some of the artists.

The opening reception will be 6 to 8 p.m. in the Kavanaugh Gallery at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 37W570 Bolcum Road in St. Charles.

The artists are:

The evening will include the presentation of awards by Gary Schirmer, the judge for this show. He has been a working artist for 40 years, and a studio-art educator at the college level for 25 years in the subjects of painting, drawing, life drawing photography and printmaking, as well as a lecturer in Art Appreciation, at the College of DuPage and Joliet Junior College.

Schirmer also works as a commercial artist and illustrator, portrait artist, photo-documentarian, and scenic painter and prop designer/fabricator for the film and television production industries and live theater production. He has worked as a freelance scenic artist and set fabricator for 20 years with WTTW, Channel 11 Chicago.

Light refreshments will be served. The Dempsey Artisan Shop and Fine Line supply store will be open until 7 p.m.

The opening reception is free and open to everyone. The exhibit continues through Aug. 9. Fine Line is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday; closed Sundays.

Fine Line Creative Arts Center of St. Charles supports artists and the larger community through instruction, exploration, and exhibition of traditional and innovative arts and crafts, its mission enriched by a natural and inspirational setting.

Art classes for adults are offered throughout the year, for all ability levels, from ceramics, weaving and other textiles to jewelry making, blacksmithing, fused glass, painting, papermaking and more. Workshops taught by guest artists are also offered each session.

Two galleries are included on Fine Line's campus. The Dempsey Gallery is located inside the barn and features members' artwork. The spacious Kavanagh Gallery in the newer, modern building, plays host to a number of exhibits, featuring local, national and international artists, throughout the year.
