Blackhawks sign forward, assistant coach

The Blackhawks made two moves Thursday, signing 26-year-old Swedish forward Anton Wedin and adding an assistant to their coaching staff.

The 5-foot-11, 194-pound Wedin inked a one-year, $925,000 deal. He led Timra IK of the Swedish Hockey League with 14 goals last season and also added 13 assists in 32 regular-season games. In the five previous seasons, Wedin averaged 5.6 goals.

The Hawks also named 38-year-old Tomas Mitell as an assistant to head coach Jeremy Colliton. Mitell was head coach of AIK Hockey (Allsvenskan) from 2017-19, where he guided the squad to a 64-27-13 record.

Mitell was also an assistant coach under Colliton with Mora IK in the SHL during the 2016-17 season.
