Perrin-Wheaton DAR awards scholarship

Margaret Allen, a senior at Wheaton North High School, received a scholarship from Perrin-Wheaton chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at its meeting April 22.

She will use the scholarship at the University of Notre Dame, where she plans to study biology.

Perrin-Wheaton, a chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, awards a scholarship each year to a senior from a Wheaton high school.

The chapter serves the community in a variety of ways that support patriotism, education and American history.

Guests are welcome, whether or not you're a member. The chapter meets at 7:15 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month from September through April. Meetings include a brief opening ritual, a program or speaker, and a short business meeting.

The Perrin-Wheaton Chapter: awards college scholarships; supports the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans; celebrates Constitution Week; presents DAR Good Citizens Awards; awards ROTC medals; supports DAR schools for students with special needs; marches in Memorial Day and Independence Day parades; helps community members learn about their family trees; promotes the DAR History Essay Contest; honors immigrants who have become American citizens; collects supplies for homeless veterans; and sponsors the William Gary Society, Children of the American Revolution.
