Two incumbents, one newcomer elected to Cary village board

Cary voters elected one-term incumbents Ellen McAlpine and Kimberly Covelli, and newcomer Dale Collier to three 4-year term seats on the village board Tuesday from a field of six candidates.

The race in which 6,555 votes were cast was tight, with McAlpine leading with 1,214 votes, followed closely by Collier with 1,182 votes and Covelli with 1,180 votes, according to unofficial results not counting late arrival vote by mail, write-in or provisional ballots.

The remaining candidates: Sean Wheeler collected 1,168 votes, one-term incumbent Jim Cosler garnered 1,076 votes, and Tim Ritter came in last with 735 votes.

McAlpine, 56, is a sales manager for Envoy Mortgage. Collier, 47, is vice president of Tri State Hydraulics in Elk Grove Village. Covelli, 41, is a Lincolnshire Police commander first elected after a write-in campaign in 2015.
