Algonquin Area Library District to host two contests for Black History Month
This February, the Algonquin Area Public Library District is celebrating African-American literature and history by encouraging more reading, writing, and critical thinking about American culture and society.
To get the community involved, the library is hosting two contests for high school students and adults.
Win a $50 Amazon gift card with the "Black History Month Quiz." Pick up a quiz at the Black History Month display in the Adult Services Department, answer all 25 questions about African American history, and turn in your quiz to the Adult Services desk by 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.
All quizzes with perfect scores will be entered for a random drawing. The library has online resources to find the right answers: "Biography in Context," eLibrary, Gale Virtual Reference Library and WorldBook Reference Center! All you need to access is your Algonquin Area Public Library card. You can also download and print the quiz.

From Maya Angelou to Barack Obama, visit the library's display of books and audiobooks by African-American authors in Adult Services and grab an entry form. Need assistance finding a book to review? Ask the library staff for suggestions. Need help writing a book review? Explore Brainfuse with your library card and ask for help. Reviews must be your own work; one entry per person. The review should be 250 words maximum. You may turn in a hard copy of your review to the Adult Services Desk or by email to refdesk@aapld.org by 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.
