Walnut Hollow Disc Golf Course to host grand opening Oct. 20

Cary Park District invites the community to the grand opening of Walnut Hollow Disc Golf Course from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Hoffman Park, 2011 W. Main St.

All are welcome to stop by and "disc"over this fun, competitive, outdoor recreational sport.

Walnut Hollow officially opened Aug. 30 for public use. The grand opening event includes a demonstration by professional disc golf player and course designer Dana Vicich, commemorative Walnut Hollow disc giveaways for the first 100 people who attend the grand opening, and a ceremonial first throw on the course. Organized activities will end at about 10:45 a.m., but all are welcome to stay and play the course as long as they wish.

Located in Hoffman Park next to the dog park, Walnut Hollow is a sprawling, 18-hole course set on 36 acres of land. The course, which traverses some of the best landscapes including some flat and some rolling terrains, is designed to be enjoyed by players of all ages and abilities. Players encounter tree hedgerows, old agriculture fields, and farmstead areas along the course to create an interesting and challenging experience for players of all ages and skill levels. Concrete tee pads with signage on hole location, distance and par are at each hole.

A smaller six-hole family course provides a shorter track perfect for introducing the sport to children and adult beginners. Plus, an on-site parking lot, bathrooms and covered picnic area set the scene for a family afternoon of disc golf fun and picnicking.

The course is open dawn to dusk and is free for all to enjoy.

Players must provide their own discs to play. For information on Walnut Hollow Disc Golf Course, call the Cary Park District at (847) 639-6100 or check out the course map online at www.carypark.com under Parks and Facilities.
