Schaumburg media host announces candidacy for 8th District GOP primary

A second Republican candidate for the March 20 primary for the 8th Congressional District seat currently held by first-term Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi has announced her run for office.

Vandana Jhingan of Schaumburg described herself as a community activist, businesswoman and media host in the declaration of her candidacy Thursday.

"There are innumerable problems and ailments stemming from ineffective governance and leadership that are afflicting and affecting vast numbers of Americans from broad spectrums and walks of life," Jhingan said in a written statement. "Many of these problems have roots going back more than a few decades, and their severity has only increased over time without much respite or recourse in sight."

Jhingan said in her announcement that she is an Indian-American immigrant, has lived in Schaumburg since 2000, and has served as the Midwest bureau chief of TV Asia for more than 15 years.

Jitendra "JD" Diganvker, another Schaumburg resident who describes himself as a businessman, immigrant and community volunteer, in mid-November announced his candidacy for the Republican primary in the 8th District.

While both Diganvker and Krishnamoorthi had already filed their candidacies for their respective parties' primaries by Thursday, Jhingan had not.

The 8th District is roughly centered in Schaumburg and includes parts of northwest Cook, northeast DuPage and northeast Kane counties.
