Puzzled by negative react to town merger idea

Having only arrived in the area a few years ago, I find the overwhelmingly negative response to the proposed (fake or not) merger of Lisle, Warrenville and Woodridge into Naperville perplexing.

I've noticed many overlapping/duplicative municipal services that could be combined to cut fixed costs and would like to see a feasibility study that could easily answer questions that many citizens like myself have about the potential efficiencies of such a merger.

As usual, I suspect there are political motivations behind the immediate, overwhelmingly negative reaction. I hate to say it but … sad!
