Objectors: Bounce two - mayor and trustee candidate - from Elburn ballot

A candidate for Elburn village president and one for trustee should be bounced from the April ballot because they didn't fill out their paperwork correctly, objectors say.

Hearings will begin Tuesday afternoon to review objections to the petitions of Jeff Walter and Kenneth Anderson.

Walter is running for president. Anderson seeks re-election as a trustee.

In both cases, objectors say their election petitions are invalid because they did not number the pages. Both left those lines blank.

Michael Rullman, who is also running for trustee, filed the objection to Anderson's petitions.

"By law, it is pretty clear that it (page-numbering) is required," Rullman said.

As to whether it seemed anti-democracy or excessively picky, Rullman said asking for the numbering "was important enough" that the state board of election requires it.

"We are either a nation of rules or we aren't," Rullman said.

Resident James MacRunnels objected to Walter's candidacy.

Walter, currently a trustee, is running against fellow Trustee David Gualdoni and Chris Mondi.

Anderson is running against Rullman, Trustee Patricia Schuberg and Matthew Wilson.

The village's electoral board will meet at 5 p.m. at the village hall, 301 E. North St.

The board consists of the Village President Dave Anderson, Village Clerk Diane McQuilkin and the trustee who has served the longest, which is William Grabarek.

Dave Anderson collected signatures for Kenneth Anderson (the two are not related) and signed Walter's petition.

Grabarek also signed Walter's and Schuberg's petitions

MacRunnels could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.

Anderson has served on the village board for eight years, as has Walter.

Rullman ran for the board in 2015 and 2013.

MacRunnels sought the Republican nomination for Kane County Board chairman in 2008 and the nomination for county board District 18 in 2016, losing both times. He also once sued a county board chairman, saying she had improperly given raises to department heads.

Michael Rullman, a candidate for Elburn village board, has objected to the candidacy of Kenneth Anderson.
