Mount Prospect brothers paint Cubs logo on lawn

When the Cubs won their final playoff game and were headed for the World Series, Mount Prospect brothers Sam and Nick Alonzo wanted to express their euphoria creatively.

On Columbus Day, the duo spray-painted a Cubs logo freehand on their front lawn.

"We've had so many people stopping by and complimenting us," said their mother, Susan Alonzo.

Sam, 16, and Nick, 14, have been lifelong Cubs fans through the good times and bad, she added.

"We used to take them to the Cubs games when they were little, and they got hooked," she said. "They are very excited and they cannot wait to watch the (final) game."

If the Cubs win the World Series, "they would like to go downtown and celebrate," Alonzo said. "We went to the Blackhawks parade when they won a couple of times, so obviously if the Cubs win, we are going to be there."
