Girls volleyball: Washington sets St. Edward kills record in regional win

St. Edward senior Dominique Washington set the school's all-time kills record Monday night when the Green Wave opened postseason play with a 25-12, 25-15 win over Somonauk at the Class 2A Aurora Christian regional.

Washington had 15 kills in the match, running her career total to 980 and breaking the record held by 2008 graduate Kristen Haggenjos.

Erin Kremer added 6 kills and 10 digs for the Green Wave (20-16), who take on Harvest Christian in Tuesday's semifinals. Taylor Schueler had 5 kills, Emily Stapay 12 assists and 7 digs and Washington 9 digs.

Larkin d. Streamwood: Larkin opened the postseason with a 25-16, 25-15 win over Streamwood at the Class 4A Larkin regional. Natalie Kofie had 4 kills, 14 assists, 2 aces and 10 digs while April McGhee added 5 kills, 2 aces and 6 digs to lead the Royals (14-19), who will play Cary-Grove Tuesday in the semifinals. Mackenzie Malone also had 6 digs and Audrey Shores added 2 kills and 4 aces.

Batavia d. Plainfield East: At the Class 4A Metea Valley regional, Micaela Hix had 9 kills, Aasha Dave 6 kills and Jenna Garrett 13 assists and 7 digs to lead Batavia to a 25-12, 25-17 win. Sam Juarez added 14 digs for the Bulldogs (19-17), who face St. Francis in Tuesday's semifinals. Sam Juarez added 14 digs for Batavia.

West Aurora d. Bartlett: Gillian Jones and Kayla Battle had 6 kills each to lead the Blackhawks to a 25-14, 25-11 win at the Class 4A West Aurora regional. Grace Van Dorn added 11 assists for West Aurora (19-16-1), which takes on Neuqua Valley in the semifinals Tuesday.
