Girls volleyball: Morris, Capel lead attack for Barrington

Thirteenth-seeded Barrington defeated No. 20 Round Lake 25-10, 25-18 in Tuesday's play-in match of the Class 4A Waukegan girls volleyball regional on Monday night.

The Fillies advanced to today's semifinals to face No. 4 Palatine (30-5) at 5:30 p.m.

Gabby Morris (5 kills, 2 aces, 4 digs), Andi Capel (4 kills) and

Erin Crowther (4 aces, 13 points, 6 digs) and Ana Zawisza (3 aces, 17 assists) helped lead the Fillies.

Schaumburg d. Niles North: No. 13 seeded Schaumburg stopped No. 19 Niles North 25-17, 25-14 in the play-in match of the Maine West Class 4A regional.

The Saxons advanced to today's semifinal at 5:30 p.m. against No. 4 New Trier.

Leading the attack for Schaumburg were Morgan Sterrett (8 kills), Julia Spitelli (7) and Mallory Gerber (6).

Gabby Paelmo led the back row with 11 digs followed by Sterrett (9) and Michaela Encarnacion (6).

Maine West d. Taft: The host Warriors won the play-in match to their own Class 4A regional by defeating No. 21 Taft 25-18, 25-22.

No. 12 Maine West (19-17) faces No. 5 Niles West in today's semifinal at 6:30 p.m.

Leyden defeats Proviso East: Senior outside hitter Patrycja Strzeminska (6 kills, 1 ace) and senior middle hitter Natalie Payne (3 kills, 2 aces) helped lead No. 12 Leyden to a 25-7, 25-9 over the No. 21 Pirates in the play-in match of the Little Village (Chicago) regional.

The Eagles will face No. 5 Addison Trail today 6:30 p.m.

Evanston d. Elk Grove: No. 15 Evanston recorded a 25-12, 25-11 triumph over the No. 18 Grenadiers in the play-in match of the Evanston Class 4A regional.

Elk Grove (8-25) was led on attack by Holly Olson (3 kills) and Rachel Kandefer (2) while Mary Cronin was 4-of-41 setting with 11 assists. Jenny Banak was 6-of-6 serving with 2 aces.

Wauconda d. Buffalo Grove: No. 15 Wauconda posted a 25-21, 25-18 win over No. 19 Buffalo Grove in the play-in match of the Buffalo Grove Class 4A regional.

The Bison (7-25) were led on attack by Marianna Galati (5 kills), Lindsey Prommer (4 kills), Nadia Tarasova (3), Kanella Kalyviaras (3) and Kim Bartons (2). Hannah Schuler set the attack with 16 assists and Kiarra Akiyoshi led the back row with 19 digs.
