Resuscitation expert and American heart association Veteran volunteer Vemuri S. Murthy, MD receives Lifetime achievement award of Indian American medical association, Illinois

Chicago IL: Dr. Vemuri S. Murthy is an alumnus of Guntur Medical College, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (General Surgery), India and Rush University Medical Center (Anesthesiology), Chicago, Illinois, USA. A past Chairman of the Anesthesiology Department, West Suburban Medical Center, Oak Park, Illinois, and Attending Anesthesiologist, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Illinois, he is a well-recognized resuscitation expert and advocate of global health projects in USA, and internationally. A Harvard University Simulation Center visiting scholar, he is the President of Global Resuscitation Consulting, LLC.

A veteran volunteer of the American Heart Association (AHA), a national and international teaching faculty and current member of the AHA international committee (and India liaison), Dr. Murthy has been contributing to the mission of AHA for over two decades. The AHA International Committee is involved with the AHA global health programs in several countries, and also serves as an advisor to organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO). He has been championing AHA's initiatives of resuscitation training and community Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) awareness, among others.

Dr. Murthy organized and chaired global health educational conferences involving resuscitation science in India and USA. As a visiting University Professor and faculty, and AHA International Training Center advisor, he has been offering training in Indian medical institutions for several years. Dr. Murthy is considered a "Pioneer of resuscitation education in India" for his efforts to enhance medical curriculum with resuscitation training. As one of the leaders of the Association of Telugu Medical Graduates in USA (ATMGUSA), he was the architect of AHA International Training Center at the University to implement AHA curriculum in all medical colleges of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences as a model for Indian medical universities.

As an AHA representative, Dr. Murthy contributed to initiating AHA's pilot project of "Saving Children's Lives" in Gujarat, India and is currently working with Governmental and non-Governmental Organizations to roll out various AHA-India projects.

Dr. Murthy, the current Chairman of the Chicago Medical Society(CMS) Council, is the founder of the public health project of Chicago Medical Society and Illinois State Medical Society, "Saving More Illinois Lives through Education" (SMILE) offering community CPR presentations. He conducted CPR workshops for members of US Congress, Illinois Senate and House of Representatives, Chicago Aldermen and Consulates. He has given resuscitation lectures at various national and international organizations, medical societies and institutions such as Harvard (Brigham) in the US, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences in India. He is currently planning few National resuscitation workshops in India in December 2016.

Dr. Murthy has been actively associated with the Indian American Medical Association, Illinois, (IAMA IL) for many years serving in different capacities including President. Recently he initiated an accredited IAMA IL, University of Illinois @Chicago and AHA Global Project of "Community CPR awareness in India" involving visiting US physician residents from Illinois Medical Universities. He is also the AHA Liaison for various organizations such as the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), American Association of Cardiologists of Indian Origin (AACIO) and Indian Society of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Murthy is the recipient of several prestigious awards in USA and internationally for his contributions as a "Champion of Global Health". Recently, he was honored by the Indian American Medical Association, Illinois with the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD during the Annual Gala Banquet of the organization on October

15, 2016 at Meadows Club in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.
