Girls volleyball: Dundee-Crown wins Elgin tournament

Dundee-Crown's girls volleyball team went 5-0 Saturday to win the championship of the Elgin tournament.

The Chargers (12-13) defeated Highland Park, Elgin, South Elgin, St. Edward and Leyden.

Leading the way for D-C were Ayana Gard (35 kills, 24 digs, 6 blocks). Emma Brant (32 kills, 14 digs, 13 blocks), Irene Martin (15 kills, 34 digs, 12 aces), Ali Buckley (14 kills, 84 assists, 29 digs, 6 blocks), Grace McLain (10 kills), Jenna Thelen (8 kills, 13 aces) and Zoe Sitarz (36 digs).

St. Edward at Elgin: The Green Wave finished 2-3 at the Elgin tournament, beating Elgin and Leyden but losing to Dundee-Crown, Highland Park and South Elgin. Dominique Washington had 52 kills, 38 digs and 7 blocks for St. Edward (17-16) while Erin Kremer (5 aces, 17 kills, 22 digs), Brianna Lopez (47 digs), Erin Aldana (41 assists) and Emily Stapay (42 assists, 5 aces and 36 service points) also contributed.

At Minooka: St. Charles North Star took third place at the 37th annual Minooka Invite this weekend, defeating Plainfield South, Glenbard South and Naperville North while losing to Normal U-High in the semifinals, and then defeating Normal West for third place 25-15, 26-24. Gigi Crescenzo (48 digs, 7 aces, 24 kills), Lauren Caprini (51 digs, 14 aces), Amanda Parker (23 kills, 46 assists), Abby Graham (37 kills), Katie Lanz (23 kills, 12 aces, 28 assists) and Hallie Wohlert (25 assists) led the way for the North Stars (22-10).

At Maine West: Batavia fell to Downers Grove South in the consolation finals at the Maine West Pumpkin tournament. Sam Juarez (31 kills, 54 digs, 9 aces), Jenna Garrett (98 assists, 13 kills, 4 blocks), Sara Prier (25 kills, 8 blocks) and Maddy Boyer (25 kills, 40 digs, 7 aces) led the Bulldogs (17-16) in the tournament.
