Military Through the Ages exhibit continues Sunday at Cantigny

Rain added an extra touch of realism to Saturday's Military Through the Ages event at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.

The first-time event at Cantigny, which continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, is a timeline re-enactment featuring a wide span of military encampments throughout history, from ancient Rome through Operation Desert Storm.

Visitors learned firsthand how soldiers lived and fought during different eras as well as the progression of weapons, clothing and technology over time.

Katrarzyna Stankiemicz of River Grove, who was at the event with her daughter Lauren Stankiemicz, 10, checked out a display of guns from the Civil War.

"I just love this park," she said. "We were coming here to enjoy the fall colors and just happened to find this event. It's great."

The encampments, in chronological order, facilitate self-guided walking tours, with living-history actors available to answer questions. Admission is free with paid parking ($5).
