Schaumburg Township picnic rocks with '50s theme

Schaumburg Township Disability Services hosted its annual picnic for people with disabilities and their families on Saturday, July 30, with a '50s theme.

More than 150 guests enjoyed food from Village Tavern and frozen custard desserts donated by Barry Himmelfarb of Culver's. An Elvis impersonator greeted guests, posed for pictures and sang a few Elvis songs played by DJ Eric Brandt.

State Reps. Michelle Mussman and Fred Crespo brought back Brookfield Zoo's Nature and Science Activities to entertain guests. Shortly after lunch, everyone played bingo for a chance to win door prizes donated by local businesses.

For the last several years, Illinois Telecommunications Access Corp. (ITAC), Village Tavern and Grill, the Schaumburg-Hoffman Lions Club, Culver's and the Schaumburg Township Foundation have sponsored the picnic.

Special thanks to all the volunteers, the Schaumburg Township Highway Department, Sheriff's Work Alternative Program and the Schaumburg Park District for their support.
