U. of Illinois students to document Schaumburg's historic Schweikher House

Students from the University of Illinois' School of Architecture in Champaign-Urbana will spend the fall visiting the historic Paul Schweikher House in Schaumburg and preparing drawings and other documentation for the Historic American Buildings Survey.

Under the direction of Associate Professor Paul Kapp, the students will record the house's architectural credentials following a process established by the National Park Service for the documenting of historic buildings.

At the end of the semester, the group will submit its final package of drawings, field notes, photographs and other materials to the National Park Service's Historic American Building Survey as their entry into the Charles E. Peterson Prize Competition and for inclusion in the archives of the Library of Congress.

Members of the general public also will have an opportunity to visit the Schweikher House and its grounds at 645 S. Meacham Road for 50-minute guided tours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.

The tours cost $25 per person, paid in advance, with a maximum of 12 people per tour.

To register, visit schweikerhouse.org/tours/, email info@schweikerhouse.org or call Todd Wenger at (847) 923-3866.
