One man injured in Island Lake motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was critically injured Sunday afternoon in a crash in Island Lake, fire officials said.

Two men were involved in the accident, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Roberts Road between Porten and Lamphere roads, said Battalion Chief Mark Dierker of the Wauconda Fire District. The motorcyclists were traveling together on separate bikes, he said.

When authorities arrived at the scene, one rider who was not wearing a helmet was lying on the ground unresponsive, Dierker said. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, he said. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

The other rider refused medical treatment at the scene, Dierker said. No other vehicles were involved.

Roberts Road was temporarily closed after the crash, Dierker said. The McHenry County sheriff's office is investigating.
