Got $250,000? VIP sit-down with Donald Trump could be yours, but expect protests

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's appearance in Bolingbrook this month could include some pushback.

An online petition has surfaced that asks Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar to cancel the Sept. 19 fundraiser at the Bolingbrook Golf Club.

The event, whose sponsors include Claar and former gubernatorial candidate and executive Ron Gidwitz, features a luncheon and VIP roundtable.

Tickets, ranging from $1,000 for a person to $250,000 for a couple, are available, an official said.

"There's been a big response given the ticket price," Claar said.

He originally supported Republican primary hopeful Jeb Bush, but when the former Florida governor's campaign imploded, Claar threw his backing behind Trump.

While acknowledging some residents weren't thrilled about Trump's visit to Bolingbrook, "I'm personally very happy about it," Claar said. "It's great for us, it's great for the club."

Trump faces Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 election.

A donation of $250,000 per couple guarantees the designation of "event chair," prime seating at the luncheon, a seat at the VIP roundtable and a photo op.

Other ticket levels are $100,000, $25,000, $10,000, $2,700 and $1,000. The $1,000 option is for the luncheon only.

An online petition by a group calling itself Suburban Families Against Hate is collecting signatures in opposition to the event, and some posts have referred to a potential protest.

The fundraiser was originally set for Monday, Sept. 12.
