Streamwood house fire causes $40,000 in damage

Nobody was injured in a Streamwood house fire Saturday that caused roughly $40,000 in damage, fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived at the one-story, single-family home on Regency Court at 4:39 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the back of the house, according to a news release from the Streamwood Fire Department.

Neighbors first noticed the fire and alerted the residents, who were able to safely evacuate, officials said. They also tried extinguishing the fire using a garden hose.

Though the cause of the fire is unknown, fire officials say it started on the exterior of the house and extended into the attic. An investigation is ongoing.
