Boomers end 7-game losing streak

Despite totaling just 5 hits, the Schaumburg Boomers collected a 3-2 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Sunday to break a seven-game losing streak.

Schaumburg set the tone in the first inning, grabbing a 1-0 lead just three batters into the game. Kenny Towns singled on the first pitch of the game, Argenis Aldazoro followed with a double, and a groundout from Jordan Dean made it 1-0. Mark Nelson lifted a sacrifice fly to push the margin to 2-0.

Windy City tied the game with single runs in the third and fifth against starter Kagen Hopkins, but Mikal Hill produced a 2-out single to account for the winning run in the seventh. The single came after Nelson threw out the potential go ahead run at the plate in the sixth.

Hopkins worked 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts, improving to 5-5 on the year. Dexter Price struck out a pair in a perfect ninth to nail down his 13th save. Aldazoro collected a pair of hits.
