Webster sets team record, but Boomers fall to ThunderBolts

Seth Webster became the single season team record holder for strikeouts, but the Schaumburg Boomers could not solve the pitching of the Windy City ThunderBolts in a 6-1 loss on Friday night, the sixth consecutive defeat.

Webster allowed a run in the first but struck out back-to-back hitters to match the single season mark of 95, set by Mike Giovenco in 2013, and leave runners at second and third. Webster set the mark with a strikeout of Larry Balkwill in the second, part of a run that saw the fourth-year Boomer retire nine in a row. Schaumburg tied the game in the fourth inning on a doubles from Argenis Aldazoro and Mark Nelson. Windy City plated 3 runs in the seventh and added a pair in the eighth to account for the final.

Webster struck out 6 in working 6 innings but suffered a third consecutive defeat. The Boomers managed just 3 hits in the game as Clay Chapman tossed 8 innings. Schaumburg had only one baserunner from the fifth inning on as Windy City faced the minimum.

The series will continue on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. with RHP Scott Schultz (4-6, 5.51) on the mound.
