Prison releases Illinois woman convicted in daughter's death

LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Corrections says a suburban Chicago woman convicted in the death of her severely disabled daughter has been released from prison while a court considers her appeal.

Corrections spokeswoman Dede Short says 56-year-old Bonnie Liltz of Schaumburg was released Friday from Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln.

Liltz was sentenced in May to four years after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the 2015 death of her 28-year-old daughter, Courtney.

An Illinois court is set to hear Liltz's appeal, and judges this week agreed to release her on bond.

Liltz has had cancer and has said she feared what would happen to her daughter as her own health declined. She said she gave Courtney a mix of prescription drugs and took them herself. But Bonnie Liltz recovered.
