Island Lake mayor gets big pay raise

Starting in May 2017, Island Lake's mayor will be among the best-paid mayors in Lake County. The village board on Thursday agreed to increase the mayor's base salary from $8,800 annually to $21,400 annually. In addition, the mayor will continue to receive $100 for each board meeting he attends and $1,200 annually for serving as liquor commissioner. Those stipends will bring the mayor's pay to $24,000 annually. Few Lake County mayors are paid more than $20,000 annually. Trustees also approved a pay raise for the village clerk. The clerk will be paid $200 per month, up from $150. A $75-per-meeting stipend will continue. Additionally, the clerk is paid $18 per hour for work as the village's collector. The changes are effective after the spring 2017 municipal election.
