Images: #TBT Gallery revisits Warrenville

It was 1833 when Julius Morton Warren founded the town of Warrenville. The Warren family built their home on what is now Main Street. This is still the oldest wood frame structure standing in DuPage County today.

As the years went by, the settlers developed the area.

In 1838 Colonel Warren's Tavern was constructed. This was a stagecoach stop for travelers heading west in early County meetings.

By 1902 Warrenville got its first passenger railway. The railway was called The Chicago, an Electric Trolley Service. This gave Warrenville residents a reliable way to make it to Chicago and brought more settlers to the area.

Warrenville was incorporated in 1967. Bill Stafford was elected the first mayor, and a police department was put into effect. Stafford was the great-great-great grandson of Dorus Stafford. Dorus was a Canadian immigrant and a tradesmen in Warrenville.

By 1980, Warrenville was bursting at the seams as the development of Cantera greatly altered the community. Now Warrenville is competing with cities like Naperville on more than one level.
