Sign up for Taylor Family YMCA's Pelican Swim Team

The Taylor YMCA's Pelicans Swim Team is taking registration for the fall/winter swim season, which begins Sept. 1 for all returning swimmers.

The YMCA's goal is to provide Fox Valley area youth and families with a competitive, value-driven instructional swimming program that instills a sense of accomplishment and pride in each swimmer while building friendships, sportsmanship, and self-esteem.

The YMCA Pelicans compete in both YMCA and USA Swimming meets. Participation in USA Swimming is optional. There is an additional fee for USA Swimming registration and meet entries.

The Elgin Pelicans are coming off a very successful summer swim season which saw the team with an overall third-place trophy at the end of Summer Invitational. Individual swimmers also did very well with several receiving first-place honors: Nadia Johnson, first place in the 8-U group; Hannah Johnson, first place in the 10-U; Alexzander Sotelo, first place in the 11-12 age group; and Nicholas LoPiccolo and Kristian Van Wiel, first place in the 21-U age group.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, the coaches will hold a registration and evaluation day for all new swimmers. Coaches will evaluate swimmer's level and place new swimmers in the appropriate practice groups.

The YMCA Pelican season officially kicks off Sept. 19 and runs through March. All swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool freestyle and one length of the pool backstroke and have a positive team attitude that aligns with the mission and values of the YMCA. As a rule of YMCA of the USA Competitive Swimming, swim team members must be members of the Taylor Family YMCA. Swimmers will be placed in practice groups and lanes depending on their skill level. Coaches have the final decision on where swimmers will be placed based on ability and attitude.
