Authorities investigate death of infant found on roadside

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of an infant found on the side of a road in a suburb west of Chicago.

The DuPage County Coroner's Office said Tuesday the preliminary results of an autopsy are "pending further investigation."

The coroner's office said in a news release that sheriff's deputies responding to a call found the infant Monday afternoon off a private drive in unincorporated Milton Township just outside Wheaton.

Authorities released no other information.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that sheriff's deputies handed out fliers Tuesday evening seeking more information near the scene.

The newspaper reports that neighbors said landscapers discovered the baby Monday in a wooded area on the side of the road.
