More volunteer tutors needed at Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley

Nearly 40 of our neighbors are waiting to learn English through Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley. The organization already has about 150 trained volunteer tutors working with adult students, but more are needed.

A four-session tutor training workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 6, 8, 13 and 15, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

The program provides material and training so that anyone can be a tutor. Each tutor meets with one adult student for one hour each week at a time and public location that is convenient.

Volunteers say that there are benefits to being a tutor. You get to learn about other cultures, look at the world from a different point of view, and literally change a life. The adult students have come from more than 30 different countries to live in safe neighborhoods, send their children to good schools, and contribute to the good of our community.

Residents who are interested in registering for tutor training can visit www.lvfv.org or call/text Peg Coker at (630) 584-4428.
