Clinton delegate says Obama terms 'went by way too fast'

In the early stages of President Barack Obama's first campaign and months in office, Democratic state Sen. Terry Link of Vernon Hills got a lot of press.

Link was a player in Obama's bipartisan poker games with lawmakers during his Springfield days, and he was often called upon to talk about his friendship with Obama, even once being quoted in Golf Digest about the new president's game.

“When he first started, you couldn't call him a golfer,” Link said then. “He left a lot to be desired, at first.”

Now at the Democratic convention, the Illinois delegation is watching the beginning of the end of Obama's second term. Link is in Philadelphia, elected as a delegate for Hillary Clinton.

“The eight years went by way too fast,” Link says.

While Link is a Clinton delegate, he said he thought Illinois delegates for Bernie Sanders weren't among people booing loudly during speeches Monday night.

“Right behind us was the California delegation,” Link said. “Obviously, they are not as well-behaved as we are.”
