Smash Mouth, 7th heaven to play Schaumburg's Septemberfest

Smash Mouth, the band behind such summertime hits as "All Star" and "Walkin' on the Sun," is the top musical act announced so far to perform at Schaumburg's 2016 Septemberfest over Labor Day weekend.

The band will play from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, on the main stage at Schaumburg's municipal grounds, 101 Schaumburg Court.

Local favorite 7th heaven will close out the three-day festival from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5. Its repertoire includes a medley of 1970s and '80s radio hits called "30 Songs in 30 Minutes."

A headline performer for the 8:30 to 10 p.m. slot on Saturday, Sept. 3, has been booked but by contract cannot be announced until the second week of August, Schaumburg Special Events Coordinator Roxane Benvenuti said.

Scheduled for Sept. 3-5, Septemberfest includes carnival rides and games, food, family entertainment, fireworks and an arts and crafts fair.

The theme for this year's Labor Day Parade is the celebration of Schaumburg's 60th anniversary. The two-mile parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Wise Road and Summit Drive and proceed north on Summit to Stock Port Lane.

A Miss Septemberfest scholarship pageant will be judged during the weeks before Septemberfest, with applications due Aug. 5.

7th heaven will close Schaumburg's three-day Septemberfest with a performance from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5.
