Pei Wei Asian Diner closes in Mount Prospect, Chicago-area

Pei Wei Asian Diner ended its run in the Illinois market late last month, including at Randhurst Village in Mount Prospect and three other Chicago-area locations.

Mount Prospect Community Development Director Bill Cooney said leasing officials at Randhurst Village already are reaching out to other restaurant operators to fill the vacant space.

Based on the site's visibility, Cooney said he doesn't expect it will take long to find a new tenant.

"It's a very good location," he said of the outlot building Pei Wei had shared along Elmhurst Road.

According to a statement from Pei Wei, the chain has closed 10 restaurant locations in Illinois, Ohio and Louisiana, including those in Mount Prospect, Hinsdale and two in Chicago.

"We have sincerely enjoyed our time in these communities and apologize for the inconvenience this has caused," the statement reads. "Pei Wei is laser focused on growing its market share in areas where our restaurants are performing well. ... Pei Wei is thankful to the community and team members for the support over the years."

The Randhurst Village site showed no sign Tuesday of Pei Wei's former occupancy.
