First Fridays kicks off Blues Month in Aurora June 3

Free concerts at Millennium Plaza during First Fridays welcome two solo performances by guitarists John Klatt and Eric Dinse on June 3. Klatt is performing a free concert at 6 p.m. Klatt will perform standards, jazz, and blues on his guitar. Instrumentalist Eric Dinse will perform on guitar at 8 p.m.

The duo will compliment the kick off of Blues Month in Aurora. Scott Christoffel will be at Leland Tower discussing the "History of the Blues" from 6 to 9 p.m.

There will also be a few food trucks returning, and a several venues are celebrating the letter 'J' on June 3.

If These Walls Could Talk, 32 S. Stolp Ave., invited a dozen artists whose names start with 'J' to be part of The 'J' Show from 7 to 11 p.m. From Jacqueline Fowler to Joshua Schultz, local artists with a name beginning with the letter 'J' will fill the walls with joy.

Artist Lewis Achenbach's Jazz Occurrence is back on the third floor of the David L. Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer Place. Achenbach presents "Rooms of the Mind," the third annual Jazz Occurrence Art Exhibition featuring the works of 15 visual artists and the music of John Pazdan and The Empty Set. Pazdan, a member of the power pop group Pezband, will present a low-fi mix of modern acoustic/electric/electronic free improvisation. The exhibit runs through July 23.

Joel Frieders is signing copies of his new book, "This Call May Be Recorded" at Gillerson's Grubbery, 33 W. New York St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Frieders, of Yorkville, wrote about his humorous conversations with customers over the phone at The Compounder in Aurora.

Jack Stone opens "Mixed Media" at The Light of the Heart, 52 W. Downer Place. Stone, a digital artist, graphic designer and photographer, will be displaying his works from 7 to 9 p.m.

Other shows that do not include the letter 'J' are Aurora Fastprint's The Printed Show, "Organic Shadows" at Allen and Pepa Architects, The Urban Show at Culture Stock, The Group Show at Emergent, Peter Hagerty at Santori Library, and more.

Food trucks will be parked on the north side of Downer Place just west of Stolp Avenue. Free trolley service runs throughout downtown from 7 to 10 p.m.

First Fridays in Downtown Aurora invites the community to enjoy art, music, food, theater, and more on the first Friday of the month.
