Election a 'horrible joke'?

I received a letter from my friend in England. She asked: "Is there really a chance that Donald Trump will be the next president of the U. S.? Over here, we cannot believe such a buffoon is taken seriously. I would not like to think his finger was on a nuclear button." She added: "We are not overly impressed by our own politicians, but Trump is in another league surely. It's all a horrible joke, isn't it?"
