Memorial Walk, support groups offered by Fox Valley Hands of Hope

This month, Fox Valley Hands of Hope offers free support groups and its annual Memorial Walk. The programs are free and open to everyone in the community, but registration is required at (630) 232-2233 or info@fvhh.net.

Paving a Way Through Grief:

When someone dies there are often questions which accompany the loss. How long should someone grieve? Will I ever feel joy again? Are the expectations I have of myself too high or too low? The answers to these questions along with many others may be difficult to find. This group is designed to provide practical information on grief as you are paving a new course for your life. It will also allow time for group members to share their own grief experiences and to validate each other. It will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, May 4 to June 8, at the office, 200 Whitfield Drive, Geneva.

Memories of Mom:

Fox Valley Hands of Hope is offering "Memories of Mom," an evening for women who have experienced the death of their mother. The group will meet form 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the office, 200 Whitfield Drive, Geneva. This group is for adult daughters who have lost their mothers. During this evening we will explore the many ways a mother's influence contributes to who we are. Coping with grief, changed roles within the family, regret, gratitude, forgiveness and dreams lost and renewed are a few of the topics to be discussed. This group offers a safe place to express grief and share memories of mom. Registration with a refundable deposit is required.

Memorial Walk:

Those who are grieving the death of a baby due to perinatal loss are invited to participate in the annual Memorial Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd. on Elgin's far southeast side. All family members and friends who have been affected by miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or infant losses are invited to participate in this remembrance service and planting of a tree. Feel free to bring a letter to the baby or a small article to place in the casket during the ceremony. Registration is requested by calling Christy Pitol at (630) 232-2233, ext. 230.
