Aurora teen faces gun charges

A 17-year-old Aurora boy faces juvenile felony charges stemming from a Tuesday night traffic stop in Aurora.

Police say the teen was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by an 18-year-old Aurora man and that also was occupied by a 16-year-old Aurora boy when the vehicle was pulled over at 10:53 p.m. on the 700 block of East New York Street for not using a turn signal.

The driver consented to a vehicle search and as the three teens left the vehicle, police said the 17-year-old was smoking a cigarette and appeared to be "extremely intoxicated."

Police said the boy admitted to being under the influence of drugs and was searched. During the search, police found him in possession of a loaded .32 revolver.

He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition with no FOID card, not having a FOID card and a misdemeanor charge of unlawful use of a weapon.

The 17-year-old was taken to the youth home. The driver was charged with not signaling and improper window tinting. The 16-year-old was released, without charges, to the custody of a parent.
