One-stop shop for soccer players open in Geneva

A new store for all of your soccer needs — whether they are player needs or fan needs — now is open along the Randall Road corridor.

The Soccer Shop opened two weeks ago at 1064 Commons Drive, in the Geneva Commons shopping center. It is near Crate & Barrel and Jimmy John's, and across the parking lot from Dick's Sporting Goods.

Some soccer shoppers may be familiar with the store, which is owned by David Parker and Simon Brinklow. Previously, The Soccer Shop was in the Sportsplex of St. Charles, just to the north on Randall.

Store manager Doug Shamoun said the move to Geneva Commons right along Randall Road is meant to give the store more exposure to more customers in the area.

“Within the Sportsplex, it was kind of like an industrial park,” he said. “Here we are hoping to get our name out there with more exposure and provide a soccer store in an area that's really kind of lacking in soccer stores.

“There really aren't any in the Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles area,” he said. “There is a need and we wanted to provide that for everyone in this area.”

The store has just about any soccer gear you could imagine, and if they don't have it, they can order it, Shamoun said.

Inside, there are cleats — both for indoor and outdoor soccer games; goalie gloves and goalies jerseys; shin guards and socks; jerseys and soccer shorts, Shamoun said.

The Soccer Shop has general sporting supplies in stock as well, such as pre-wrap and sporting tape, he said.

For those cold spring games, the store sells heat gear, warm-up pants, hats, track jackets, sweatshirts, gloves and more, he said.

The Soccer Shop even carries gear for the referees at soccer games.

For the soccer fans out there, the store sells popular jerseys from professional clubs, and from countries, as well as country flags and other accessories.

In addition to the soccer gear, the store also does printing, and can put names, numbers and logos on jerseys, Shamoun said.

Goodbye, Yogurtland:

Yogurtland in Algonquin, one of the many create-your-own frozen yogurt shops up and down the Randall Road corridor, now is closed.

The signs are even stripped from the building. Company representatives did not return calls or emails about the closing.

The business opened at 432 S. Randall Road in Algonquin in August of 2014.

If you need a Yogurtland fix, the next closest location is in Schaumburg. However, if it's just frozen yogurt you're looking for, there are plenty of spots of and down the Randall Road corridor.

For example, there is Menchies just to the south on Randall, right in Algonquin, and there is Yumz Frozen Yogurt to the north in Lake in the Hills, also on Randall.
