My NHL idol: Blackhawks' Darling on Ed Belfour

During the NHL playoffs, we're asking some Blackhawks to tell us which player they grew up idolizing. We'll share their story on each game day.

Scott Darling, who hails from Lemont, chose former Blackhawks goalie Ed Belfour as the player he enjoyed watching the most growing up.

"I got to meet him once (at a goalie school) when I was in first or second grade," Darling said. "It was the coolest thing ever. I was his biggest fan ever since then. Plus, he had a son my age who was goalie, and we played each other a bit."

Darling said he particularly enjoyed coming to Blackhawks home games to watch Belfour in action. Belfour played in 415 games for the Hawks from 1988-97 before moving on to play for San Jose, Dallas, Toronto and Florida. He won 201 of his 484 games in Chicago.
