Elgin man killed in I-90 crash

The driver killed after a fatal crash early Thursday morning on I-90 at Barrington Road has been identified as a 78-year-old Elgin man.

Illinois State Police say a gold Chevrolet minivan driven by James Perfors veered off to the left and struck the end of a tow truck preparing to tow a disabled vehicle from the construction zone between Roselle and Barrington roads.

The tow truck driver, Javier Soto, 43, of Elgin, was outside the vehicle at the time of the crash but was struck by the tow truck after the impact with the van. He was taken to St. Alexis Hospital with nonl-ifethreatening injuries.

Perfors was pronounced dead at the scene.

All westbound I-90 lanes were closed near Schaumburg for about six hours while the accident was investigated and cleaned up, authorities said. The highway reopened about 6 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
