Sparks set off small explosions in Streamwood factory

Streamwood fire officials reported that a series of small explosions occurred at 9:35 a.m. Friday in a metal factory on North Avenue.

The explosions took place while somebody was performing maintenance on a duct system, officials said. Sparks ignited excess metal dust and caused explosions in three places, sending pieces of the ductwork throughout the shop.

The ensuing fire had been put out by factory employees by the time firefighters arrived.

No one was injured.
