Hawthorn Middle School students hold sports clinic for Diamond Lake students
Student council members from Diamond Lake Elementary District 76's Hawthorn Middle School hosted a sports clinic for more than 30 enthusiastic third and fourth graders at the Vernon Hills middle school Saturday.
Student council members used the two-hour clinic to teach the younger students how to play various sports including volleyball, basketball, flag football and cheerleading.
"We just wanted to do something for the community and for kids and focus on the youth, based on fitness, health and having fun," said 8th grader and student council member Camilla Krugman. "We came up with the idea to have kids come and play sports and have fun with their friends, and make new friends,"
Diamond Lake School Social Worker Denise Thoma said the event helped involve kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about sports.

"And I think it's great to partner up with a neighborhood school," Thoma said.
