'Phase II' exhibit opens with reception April 8 at Water Street Studios

Water Street Studios main gallery will feature the work of established artists Steve Sherrell and Richard DeVeau together in an exhibition titled "Phase II," opening April 8 and continuing until May 7.

The opening reception will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 8. Gallery hours are 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at the gallery, 160 S. Water St. in Batavia.

Sherrell, a seasoned Chicago artist and professor emeritus of art at Joliet Junior College, will be showing a body of new abstract paintings that playfully explore color, while attempting to get to the heart of questions that matter to us in the 21st century.

DeVeau, a Batavia resident who moved from Boston where he established his painting career, will be showing a new body of abstract paintings that explore color and texture with a narrative element that centers on "family" as a theme.

This showing of their work comes at a time in their art careers and lives that sees them both moving into a new phase, "Phase II."

Upstairs at the Kane County Chronicle Gallery, artist Kenneth Benavides will be showing work that explores dichromatic and trichromatic viewer perception.
