Two Elgin homes hit by gunfire, West Chicago man arrested
An 18-year-old West Chicago man is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm after two Elgin homes were struck by gunfire Saturday night, police said.
Eric Juarez, of the 100 block of West Blair Street, also is charged with possession of a firearm without a firearms owner ID card and three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police Cmdr. Ana Lalley said in a news release Sunday afternoon.
According to police, officers were in the 400 block of Douglas Avenue at about 11:57 p.m. Saturday when they heard gunshots and saw man - later identified as Juarez - running in the area, Lalley said.
The man didn't stop running when asked by officers, who gave chase on foot and apprehended him near Plum and Center streets, she said.
Two residences in the 200 block of Seneca Street were struck by gunfire in the shooting, police said.
Detectives from the gang crimes unit responded to the scene, and officers found a handgun where Juarez was seen fleeing, Lalley said.
Juarez is scheduled to appear in Kane County bond court Monday morning.
